How to Find Expired Domains with Backlinks? [2023]

Are you looking to start a website but don’t have the budget to establish it from scratch? Consider investing in an expired domain instead!

An expired domain is one that was previously owned by someone else and is no longer in use, meaning it’s available for purchase. Not only can this be a great way to grab yourself an attractive domain without breaking the bank, but many of these domains are also associated with pre-existing backlinks – making them even more valuable.

In this blog post, I’ll show you how to find expired domains with backlinks so you can give your own website some extra visibility and authority from day one!

What is an Expired Domain?

I hope you are familiar with the Domain name. A domain name is an address to your website. If you are thinking of starting a blog the first thing you will need to select is the domain name. And if you want to avoid the initial struggle as a blogger nothing is better than an expired domain name with backlinks.

You might be wondering what exactly is an expired domain. An expired domain is a domain name that had previously been registered and used but has now ceased to exist because it was not renewed.

For example, if someone chose not to renew the lease of their domain name, the website and its content would eventually become unavailable when the domain name officially expires. It’s important to note that when this happens, the website address can then be snapped up by someone else who may want to re-register it.

Advantages of Buying Expired Domains for blogging

An expired domain can be a great choice for bloggers to start their new journey. These domains often come with an existing search engine ranking, making them much easier for search engine optimization.

When you choose an expired domain rather than manually establishing a brand-new one from scratch. You won’t have to spend time doing tedious SEO tasks such as building up backlinks; instead, you can focus on creating high-quality content and using the tools available in order to optimize your website and improve its visibility on search engines.

What is The Best Way to Use Expired Domains with Backlinks For Your Website Or Blog?

So, now you understand what an expired domain is. Now it’s time to understand for which purposes you can use the expired domain. I personally prefer to use an expired domain for the following reasons:

  • Building a blogging network.
  • Building a niche authority site.
  • For 301 redirection.

Let’s discuss the topics in detail.

Assign Name to Your New Website

Finding names for your blog can be a tiresome process but not if you buy an Expire domain.

Expired domains can remove the hassle of finding a new name for your blog. Just buy a domain within your niche and name your blog according to that domain. This will give you some advantages. For example, an expired domain has some backlinks, and some existing readers and you can use that for your benefit.

Building a Niche Authority Site

If you are thinking about starting an authority site for a specific niche, an expired domain with backlinks is the best solution for you. I personally prefer an expired domain with good-quality backlinks to start a niche authority site. It reduces the initial cost to create authority,

Therefore you can invest more in on-page SEO. SEO articles are the main asset of your blog. And you can rank faster if you have quality backlinks and an expired domain to support your content.

301 Redirection

Do you have an existing domain or want to start your blog with a fresh domain? You can take the advantage of an expired domain with good backlinks here also. How?

You can use 301 redirects and send the traffic to your website. This will not send the visitors only but also the link juice to your website. And you will be able to build authority in a very short span of time.

However, there is a warning for this. You can do that for one or two domains but if you do more Google will penalize you.

How Will I Find Expired Domains with Quality Backlinks Pointing to Them?

So, now you know how an expired domain can help you for establishing a new blog. But how will you find an expired domain? It’s not an easy task to do. There are several tools and websites to assist you. Here are some of those:

SpamZilla

Spamzilla official site

Spamzilla is an excellent tool for finding quality expired domains. Their spider-like search technology combs the internet to check links and find every domain available that suits your search criteria.

With Spamzilla, you will be able to make an informed decision by easily assessing their link profile and metrics such as Moz Rank, Domain Authority & Page Authority. Furthermore, with just one click, you can see how many backlinks are pointing to the domain and get a fuller picture of its value.

With Spamzilla, you are no longer tied down in the legwork necessary for uncovering high-quality expired domains – all the necessary data is aggregated in one place which simplifies the process immensely so that you can quickly sift through your list and make a decision with confidence.

You will have to use your skills to find a domain by using Spamzilla. I will recommend some other tools to look after the backlink profile such as Ahref, Moz, and SemRush.

Domain Hunter

Domain hunter official site

Domain hunter is another tool just like Spamzilla. You will be able to find the age, spam score, and backlink profile with this tool. There is no big difference between these two tools. It’s all about your patience and skills to find the best domain for your blog with quality backlinks.

On top of domain hunting, you should also use other SEO tools that I recommended earlier.

GoDaddy

Godaddy official site

GoDaddy has a big collection of expired domains for bloggers and businesses.

The process is very simple. First, you will search for the domain you are looking for. If the domain name is not taken by any other person and already expired with good-quality backlinks GoDaddy has that. You can contact the domain brokers of GoDaddy and buy the domain for your business.

If the domain is live and going to expire soon and you want to get that GoDaddy offers another service for that. You can contact them and they will monitor the activity of the domain and will acquire that once expired.

But this process is not guaranteed as nobody knows for sure whether the domain owner will renew it or not.

Flippa

Flippa official site

This is my personal favorite. Flippa is famous for buying and selling websites and mobile apps. But they also provide a domain-buying service. They provide an excellent stock of domains from different niches. All you have to do is log in to their website, pick a domain name and contact the seller.

They offer a reasonable price and you don’t have to talk to domain brokers.

How do you Make Sure the Expired Domain has no Bad History?

The Quality of the Backlinks

Checking backlinks is one of the most important steps to determining the quality of an expired domain. Backlinks indicate how many sites have linked to a domain, which can show whether or not it’s been used in reputable strategies.

To check backlinks, use an online tool such as Ahref, SemRush, or Moz, which generates a list of all sites that have been connected to the domain. Check each link and determine if they’re from reliable sources. A good indication of an expired domain’s quality is when well-known websites are connected to it–this indicates a history of good SEO practices.

Additionally, look for any outbound links from the expired domain to other web pages since this would add considerable value to its SEO capabilities.

However, not all backlinks are good for you. If the backlinks are from spammy websites then those backlinks will do more harm than good to your website. Besides, if the backlinks are not from the specific niche that is not good for your website either.

Checking backlinks can be time-consuming but it will definitely give you a better sense of what you’re getting with an expired domain purchase.

Google Penalty

This is a tough one. Google does not tell openly about which site was penalized. But you can find out that by looking after the incoming traffic. If you see any sudden drop in the traffic of a website it is more likely that Google imposed a penalty. In that case, that domain will not be a good option for your future blog.

Traffic

Checking the traffic of an expired domain is one of the key factors to consider when assessing its quality. A reliable and up-to-date analytics tool will give you access to the domain’s organic search engine traffic, as well as direct visits, referral links, and other sources.

You will be able to tell if there is activity on the domain by looking at how many regular visitors it has. It’s also important to assess which channels are driving visitors to the domain.

For example, a significant number of them may be generated from social media or online ads. That domain won’t help you more from the SEO perspective. But if the domain had visitors from generic searches that will be more beneficial for you.

Analyzing the sources and quality of traffic can help you determine whether an expired domain is worth investing in or not.

Bans

Checking the quality of an expired domain is an important part of acquiring that domain. However, it is critical to know any past history associated with the domain before proceeding. One thing to watch out for is Google bans which can damage the reputation of a site.

When investigating these domains, pay attention to results on tools such as Open Site Explorer and investigate links pointing back to the site. If there were previous owners of the site, take a look at their web presence and check if they may have become banned by Google.

Rankings

Quality rankings for an expired domain should be a key metric when assessing the quality of a domain.

Alexa, Majestic, and Moz are several well-known services that can help provide some insights into the previous life of the domain. Alexa Rankings measure website traffic and, therefore, provide insight into how much organic search engine exposure the domain has achieved.

The Majestic crawler will offer information such as history backlinks, anchor text usage, and trust score. Finally, Moz assists with Domain Authority scores which analyze links profiles to establish if incoming endorsements (backlinks) appear normal or extraordinary.

Expired domains with higher rankings across all services should be looked upon favorably by any serious buyers as they indicate a greater potential for success after re-registering.

FAQs

How to Optimize an Expired Domain for SEO?

There are several factors to consider when doing SEO with an Expired Domain with Backlinks. Here are the steps:

  • The hard part is to find the right expired domain.
  • You can use GoDaddy or another domain registrar to buy the expired domain.
  • Use a 301 redirect to send the whole domain to the target domain.
  • Let Google crawl the links for a couple of weeks.
  • Measure your results.

What is a Dropped Domain?

A dropped domain refers to an expired domain name that is no longer registered by the owner and is legally available for purchase. The owners of these domains often forget to renew their registrations, allowing them to be purchased by those who can take advantage of the opportunity.

Dropped domains can be a great way for individuals or companies looking for fresh content ideas or brand recognition without having to build from scratch

Furthermore, because the lost registration period has expired, purchasers are allowed complete control over the item, including Email hosting and redirecting links from former websites.

While it’s always best practice to do your research and ensure the items in question have not violated any terms of service or copyright laws before claiming them, choosing a dropped domain can help give you the start you need in creating your web identity.

Is it Legal to Buy Expired Domains?

Buying expired domains can be a risky venture but is generally legal. Domain investors will often purchase expired domains and use them for something such as re-marketing or parking.

However, there are several important legal considerations to keep in mind when buying an expired domain. For instance, you should research the previous owner of the domain and make sure there aren’t any open legal or financial liabilities that you could be responsible for if you take ownership.

Depending on the country that the domain was originally registered in, certain laws apply to who can take ownership of a given domain.

Additionally, taking ownership of certain registries may require you to abide by registration policies that protect user privacy and ensure proper usage of the domain. Taking all these qualities into consideration is important when deciding whether to invest in an expired domain.

What is the Grace Period for Domain Renewal?

After a domain name registration has been completed, it becomes important to ensure that the domain is regularly renewed. Failure to do so can lead to costly consequences, as domain name renewal fees go up and you may risk losing your property altogether if someone else registers the same domain in the meantime.

But luckily, registrars are aware of these needs and are often willing to offer an additional grace period beyond when the original subscription period has expired. The grace period typically lasts between 40 and 72 days after expiration, giving you enough time to either complete the renewal or let the domain name expire.

So instead of fearing any adverse impacts on your property, rest assured that there is plenty of time for you to review your options and make a decision without facing any immediate risks.

Wrapping Up

If you’re looking for expired domains with backlinks, these tips should help you get started. The most important thing is to use a tool that allows you to check domain availability and see the number of backlinks pointing to each domain.

If you are buying a domain from GoDaddy or any other sites that sell domains, you should ask for all the details and verify them yourself.

Once you’ve found a few potential expired domains, be sure to check them out thoroughly before making your final decision. By following these steps, you’ll be well on your way to finding an expired domain with plenty of high-quality backlinks.
